Our Process
Navigating the growing pains that come with change
Get back on the path to success
Restructuring a business is the core strength of the Stony Point Group. We appreciate businesses that are not performing at their full potential because we can acquire them at attractive prices, invest heavily post-closing and meet our long term investment return hurdles. Learning from Ken’s background, and after 30 years of investing the family’s assets in restructuring situations, we are familiar with the process of acquiring an underperforming business, completing the necessary restructuring and then managing the business for the long haul.
At the front end of our process we rely on speed, flexibility and certainty of closing. We have completed acquisitions in as little as 40 days; we can accommodate a stock or asset transaction inside or outside of a bankruptcy or foreclosure process; and we will not pursue a transaction unless we are confident we can deliver on our commitments to close.
Following the acquisition, the Stony Point restructuring and management approach starts with focusing on the customers and their needs. From this focus we work to build out a management team and board that are uniquely qualified to serve the needs of the customer. We then work closely with the board and the management team to monitor customer satisfaction, growth, operational excellence, hiring and retaining the best available talent and managing risk. We find that when we focus on the customer and their requirements, assemble the proper team and give them the necessary resources to do the job the results will follow.
30 Rules of the Game by Ken Glass
Ken began his career in 1960 with Allis-Chalmers Corporation. Ken advanced progressively at Allis-
Chalmers with his last position as Vice President-Operations, Worldwide Construction Machinery.
Following Allis-Chalmers Ken went on to hold positions as Vice President-Manufacturing for Fiat-Allis Construction Machinery Inc, President Perkins Diesel Corporation, President and CEO Massey-Ferguson US and Chairman President and CEO UNIMET Corporation.
After 20 years of life in large public companies where Ken earned a reputation as the guy you needed to fix a struggling operation, Ken launched Glass & Associates, a turnaround consulting firm. In just 10 years the firm grew to be an industry leader with over 50 professionals. Ken was a founding member of the Turnaround Management Association and Glass & Associates became a perennial leader and top-rated firm in the industry.
After years of turning around companies for others Ken turned his focus to investing in and operating companies he owned and controlled. Ken founded the Stony Point Group in 1995 and started out with the purchase of Utica Corporation in Utica NY. Purchased while the business was on strike and nearing liquidation, Ken acquired the company, settled the strike, invested in the business and quickly restored it to profitability. Over the next 25 years Ken would add on 6 more acquisitions with 20 locations in the US and Canada.
Over the course of Ken’s 55 year career he has learned plenty about how to invest in and run a business. He distilled that knowledge down to his 30 Rules of the Game. Have a look and you will gain a little further insight on the Stony Point process of acquiring, restructuring and managing a business for long term success.
